Nigel McGuinness thinks the chance to wrestle Bryan Danielson has gone.

The English wrestler hasn’t wrestled since December 2011, and has been happily retired since then. He’s worked as a commentator ROH, WWE and now AEW, being the voice of AEW Collision on Saturday Night.

Despite not wrestling, he has managed to continue his rivalry with Bryan Danielson. Their matches in ROH are some of the most iconic in company history, and his constant abuse of the “clam digger” has kept their fuel alive.

There were rumours that Nigel McGuinness could wrestle Bryan Danielson at AEW All In this year. McGuinness had gear made for the match last year, but Danielson broke his arm and could not wrestle.

Nigel McGuinness spoke with Chris Van Vliet about the possibility of facing Bryan Danielson at Wembley Stadium. He revealed that the match could have happened, but he doesn’t think that the match is ever going to happen.

“The only thing that really made sense was Bryan and, uh, he broke his arm, you know, ’cause he’s got osteoporosis. A match with Bryan Danielson at All In could have happened. I don’t know, it’s—I mean, so much of it is out of my control, really.”

“It’s whether he wants to wrestle me. I always thought it’s kind of funny. Someone asked him about that time if he’d ever wrestled me again, and he said, ‘If I ever wrestle Nigel, I’d break his neck.’ Yeah, and then three weeks later, he breaks his arm, which I thought was a bit of karma, don’t you think?”

“I make jokes about: ‘I don’t think he’s ever going to wrestle me, to be perfectly honest.'”
