RevPro Wrestling: The Ultimate Guide

RevPro Wrestling has quickly become the destination for lovers of British wrestling.

Since its inception in 2012, RevPro has grown to become the most popular wrestling promotion in the United Kingdom.

What began as a small regional company in Sittingbourne has grown into a British institution. They have formed partnerships with companies like NJPW and CMLL to put on some internationally renowned wrestling shows.

What Is RevPro?

Revolution Pro Wrestling, or RevPro, is a professional wrestling promotion based in the South East of London. They run shows mainly in London, but also travel across the UK on a regular basis.

It was founded by Andy Quildan in 2012, a former referee and wrestling “matchmaker” from England. He founded the company with the goal of making wrestling a viable business in the UK again, following decades of downturn for the sport.

The company brings a more modern style to British wrestling. It showcases the “British Strong Style” style, which was innovated in companies like Progress and RevPro. It mixed the modern British style, which was heavily influenced by the WWE in the 1990s, with the “strong style” popularised by Japanese promotions in the 2000s.

The wrestles regularly put on fast-paced, hard-hitting bouts that have the fans on the edge of their seats. However, they also present other styles, like the classic technical British style, and the high-flying Mexican luha libre style.

RevPro has grown enormously since its inception. With its predecessor, IPW: UK, managing around 200 fans for their regular shows, RevPro manages to pull in nearly 4,000 fans for their biggest events. This is all down to the hard work of the wrestlers, and RevPro booker Andy Quildan.

The History Of RevPro

RevPro was created in 2012 by IPW:UK booker Andy Quildan. After splitting from the promotion, he began running Revolution Pro Wrestling shows from Sittingbourne. After having their funding cut and being forced to drop Goldberg and Kevin Nash, Quildan decided to go out on his own.

He took with him the main titles from the promotion. RevPro kept the British Heavyweight, Cruiserweight and Tag Team Championship, instantly giving them credibility. Their first show was RevPro Summer Sizzler 2012. It featured some huge stars of the future, including Zack Sabre Jr, Prince Devitt and Johnny Gargano.

Sha Samuels was crowned the Heavyweight Champion at the event, beating the now-disgraced Marty Scurll to take home the gold. The company quickly grew, partially thanks to its partnerships with other promotions.

Prince Devitt helped them secure a deal with New Japan Pro Wrestling, which saw all the top stars in Japan making the trip over, helping the company to grow on the world stage.

RevPro Have Helped Bring Through Some Of The UK’s Top Wrestlers

Along with promotions like Progress, PCW and IPW:UK, RevPro helped bring along a new boom period in British wrestling.

They did this by creating new stars and booking them in high profile feuds and matches with one-another.

A number of top British talents have gone on to become household names in America and Japan, making millions of dollars in the process.

Some of the biggest names to cut their teeth in RevPro include:

  • Will Ospreay
  • Zack Sabre Jr
  • Marty Scurll
  • Michael Oku
  • Luke Jacobs

However, they suffered heavily during 2020, when the Speaking Out movement outed a number of their top stars as abusers.

The likes of Marty Scurll, David Starr, El Ligero and even Will Ospreay were accused of various things.

While some, like Ospreay, fought against the accusations and didn’t find their career’s impacted, other wrestlers were forced to retire from the business altogether.

This hit the RevPro hugely, and contributed to their drop in popularity in 2020, one which they still have yet to recover from.

RevPro Events

RevPro runs two distinct kind of events in its schedule. Some are like your traditional pay per view events, which big matches, title changes and rivalry-ending bouts.

These include the biggest wrestlers in RevPro, as well as “imports” from aborad. Most recently, stars like MJF, Will Ospreay and Orange Cassidy have appeared for the promotion, with even more coming in for the British J Cup!

These events include some of the biggest in the calendar year in the UK.

Shows like the RevPro Anniversary show, Summer Sizzler and High Stakes are must-see, and feature some of the best matches in British wrestling.

AEW International Champion MJF wrestled Michael Oku in an amazing match at RevPro Summer Sizzler 2024.

The other events are the less prestigious, but still entertaining “Live In – ” events.

The “Live In” shows are smaller shows, that drive the storylines and angles forward. They are more like episodes of Monday Night Raw, in terms if storytelling, than PLE events, but feature much more wrestling.

Their strucutre is more akin to a local wrestling event, which multiple matches back-to-back throughout the card.

This is not to say that big PPV-level matches don’t occur. Their last show July this year, “RevPro Live In Coventry“, saw Michael Oku take on Donovan Dijak. However, the big feuds usually end on the “named shows”.

Both types are show on RevProOnDemand, the company’s dedicated streaming service. It is less than a tenner a month, and well worth the money!
