JJ Gale: I Will Beat Ishii To Get One Over On Luke Jacobs

JJ Gale wants to do something Luke Jacobs couldn’t – beat Tomohiro Ishii.

The Englishman has had a long history with Luke Jacobs. The new Progress Heavyweight Champion had one of his best matches ever earlier this year, when he beat JJ Gale in a match at RevPro High Stakes 2024.

JJ Gale spoke with Grapple Theory about his rivalry with Luke Jacobs. He talked about being unable to beat Luke Jacobs, and how much chemistry the pair have together.

He noted that, while Luke Jacobs is battling Michael Oku for the Undisputed British Heavyweight Championship at the RevPro 12th Anniversary, JJ Gale will hope to beat Tomohiro Ishii and do something Jacobs was unable to do in RevPro.

“I think us two have good chemistry.” JJ Gale said about Luke Jacobs. “I think there’s a hell of a story there between us two. There’s a lot of it, you know. Whenever we get in the ring, I think the people know now that it’s going to be a fight. I mean, we wrestled two weeks ago at 229, and it was the same again. We just leathered the shit out of each other, and I want to beat him, you know, and I haven’t beaten him yet. I’m not afraid to say that, which is why I’ve thrown out this challenge to Tomohiro Ishii. Because sure, I can’t beat Luke right now. He’s got to go on and challenge Michael Oku for the heavyweight title, and fair enough. If I was in that position, I’d be doing the same thing.”

“But it does bug me, it constantly bugs me, the fact I haven’t got that win over him. In my head, the only way to get over that is to go and do the one thing that he hasn’t been able to do. He’s had what, one, two, maybe three chances at it, whatever it’s been—I think it’s just the two—and he hasn’t gone and done it. So what a way, the same night that Luke could possibly win the heavyweight championship and what would be the greatest moment of his career. Just imagine if at the back of his head it was, ‘But JJ beat me,’ you know? And I’m just constantly there. I’ll get my chance again, and then one day, I will beat Luke Jacobs.”
