Tommy Billington Awarded Four Stars In AEW Match

Tommy Billington has impressed in AEW so far, and picked up a four-star match rating in just his second outing.

The nephew of the Dynamite Kid made his debut in the promotion in May. He wrestled Dax Harwood on AEW Collision in a decent match. While he lost, Tommy Billington received a standing ovation from the crowd afterwards, and vowed to return to AEW again.

He did just that. Last week, Tommy Billington wrestled Konosuke Takeshita in a singles match, again on Collision. Despite being just 23-years-old, he more than held his own against the Japanese star.

He showed speed and resilience reminiscent of his father, although he struggled under the power of Takeshita. Despite impressing, he lost the match when Takeshita binned Billington for the victory.

He earned plaudits from Don Callis after the match. He offered Billington the chance to join “Don Callis Family”, although the young man from Wigan refused. They beat him down until FTR made the save, likely setting up a match involving FTR, the Don Callis Family and Tommy Billington down the line.

Billington had more good news this morning. Dave Meltzer published the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. While most eyes were on the rating for Will Ospreay’s five-star match with MJF, he quietly handed Tommy Billington four stars for his match with Konosuke Takeshita.

This is the highest-rated match of his career. It beat out the Dax Harwood match by .25 stars, and is a big accomplishment for the young Brit. He has a big future ahead of him, and could be the next British wrestling star to come from Wigan’s Snake Pit.
