George Burgess, better known as Jamaica George or Jamaica Kid, has passed away today.

The Jamiacan-born (although some sources claim Barbados) wrestler was a stalwart of the British wrestling scene for three decade.

He wrestled mainly as Jamaica George during the sport’s peak in the UK.

Described by WrestlingHeritage as “a muscular heavyweight George was a very nimble mover”, he was a familiar face on the circuit, especially during the 1970s boom.

Burgess death was confirmed by Jonny Adams, who wrestled as Johnny Angle, Undertaker Gloom and the Mask Destroyer in the UK in the 1990s.

He revealed Burgess death on Facebook, calling him a father figure and a dear friend.

Adams did not reveal the cause of death, but moted that he died peacefully on the morning of October 5th, 2024.

“It is with great sadness that I share the news of George Burgess (Jamaica George) passed away peacefully this morning.” Jonny Adams wrote.

“Rest in peace my dear friend/father figure and mentor. Thoughts and love go out to all George’s family at this sad time.”

Our thoughts go out to George Burgess’ family.
