Zozaya has revealed the surprise match that first inspired him to become a wrestler.

The Spanish star is quickly becoming a fan-favourite in RevPro in England. Since making his debut against Michael Oku in April this year he has become a mainstay in the promotion, wowing fans with his incredible high-flying ability.

He is set for his biggest match yet when he battles Leon Slater in a 60-minute Iron Man match at RevPro Uprising 2024. This will really test the limits of the Spanish star who surprisingly learnt to wrestle in the Republic of Ireland.

Zozaya spoke with Pep Shop Collectibles (translated) and discussed how he got his start in wrestling. He revealed that it was a match between Santino Marella and Cesaro for the United States Championship that inspired him to become a wrestler, although it be a few years later that he would begin training.

He explained how White Wolf Wrestling in Madrid wouldn’t train him at that age so he moved to Ireland to train there instead. Travelling there to wrestle would have been simple due to freedom of movement within the European Union.

“I started in 2015 or 2016, but I don’t really remember exactly. I watched it on TV, on Marca TV, I’m from that era. I watched a match between Cesaro and Santino Marella for the United States title, and that’s the first match I remember clearly.” Zozaya said.

“I was blown away, obviously, Cesaro was amazing, and Santino Marella was super fun. That’s when I fell in love with wrestling, and I haven’t stopped since. Later, when I went to Ireland as a kid, I saw a local wrestling event, and that’s when I decided this is what I wanted to do.”

“I went to Ireland at around 15 or 16 years old because, in Spain, Triple W didn’t allow training for those under 16. I started training there with Jak Liric, who, besides being my coach, became a great friend. It was one of the most beautiful things that I got from that time—learning from him and making lifelong friendships. I learned a lot from him and other coaches I’ve had along the way.”
