Rob Drake revealed that the success of his brother James Drake inspired him to return to wrestling.

The younger brother of one-half of the Grizzled Young Veterans initially began wrestling as a ten-year-old but gave it up at thirteen after suffering multiple concussions in the ring.

He stayed out of action until seeing the success of James Drake in NXT UK inspired him to get back into wrestling. Rob Drake has gone on to wrestle all over the UK since then, including debuting for PROGRESS Wrestling in 2023.

Speaking with The Soul Sessions, Rob Drake discussed how his brother’s success got him back into wrestling.

“Watching him on a WWE platform—not just any wrestling platform, but the biggest stage—was insane. And then, not only that, he’s the first-ever NXT UK Tag Team Champion. I know it’s not around anymore, but that’s cemented in history.” said Rob Drake.

“That’s my brother. It’s not just someone I know down the street—it’s in my family, it’s very close. Me and my brother, we were proper wrestling figure collectors. When there was a new wrestler that came out, we had to have every single one—every single wrestling figure, every single series, we had them all.”

“Every single video game, we had it all. Wrestling was just our life when we were growing up. So then, watching him on that stage, it just meant everything.” Rob Drake added.
