Mark Andrews thinks Riot Cabaret is doing something important for British wrestling that other companies aren’t.
The Welsh star is flying the flag for the London-based promotion as the current reigning and defending Riot Cabaret Champion.
The promotion has booked some huge talent from the UK and abroad. With stars like Eddie Dennis, Michael Oku and Thunder Rosa joining Mark Andrews, Riot Cabaret is doing huge things for the British wrestling scene.
Speaking with The Soul Sessions, Mark Andrews spoke about the work Riot Cabaret is doing. He said that while they do present the best of British wrestling, they are also presenting wrestling in a new way and bringing in new fans – something other promotions may not be doing.
“Yes, I’d argue it is, but it’s funny, right?” Mark Andrews said about Riot Cabaret. “I mean, it definitely fits that bill of showcasing some of the best wrestling in the UK. But I’d argue it’s actually doing something even more important—bringing in new fans. Don’t get me wrong, a lot of people abroad used to look at companies like Progress Wrestling back in the day and think, ‘This is the best wrestling in the world,’ and it just so happened to feature primarily British wrestlers.”
“These days, I’d say that title belongs to RevPro. When fans from abroad want to see the best wrestling in the UK, they look to RevPro. However, those fans are already watching whatever is considered ‘the best wrestling in the world.’”
“What Riot Cabaret is doing, though, is so important: they’re bringing in new fans. That’s also what Progress did back in the day. They’re opening up the audience to people who might’ve watched wrestling before, fallen out of love with it, and now they’re being drawn back in.”
“And honestly, I think that’s arguably more important than just showcasing the best wrestling. Don’t get me wrong, they are showcasing the best, but they’re doing it in a really clever way that brings in new fans—and that’s what we need more than anything.”
