While both Marty Scurll and Jimmy Havoc have long since left the wrestling business, their legacy lives on in one horrible episode of “Take Me Out“.
The premise of the program is quite simple. It is a dating show, where one man is judged by a series of women, hoping to win a date on the Isle of Fernando’s!
There are multiple rounds, each of which allows the girls to get to know the contestant, and to “turn their light off” to reject him. Whichever women are left at the end are in with a chance of a date with the man, and he picks one final contestant to take on holiday with him.
It was classic terrible Saturday evening television, hosted by the entirely appropriate man for the job, Paddy McGuinness (nothing to do with the wrestler Nigel McGuinness).
Marty Scurll Appeared On Take Me Out
In a harrowing watch, British wrestler Marty Scurll was one of the contestants on Take Me Out. He appeared in the 2012 series of the show that was broadcast on ITV on Saturday evening.
He danced down the famous lift, with the majority of the women keeping their lights on. They remarked about his physique, with his shoulders being a keen area of interest for the gaggle of desperation that filled the studio.
Increasingly sexual remarks were encouraged by Paddy McGuinness, although that was basically the selling point of the show.
Scurll sold himself as a romantic. He revealed he wanted to take his date on a boat right in Cambridge, before showing them the sights of his hometown. He made no mention of his wrestling career in the opening video, although that would soon be revealed.
A video played next, where Marty Scurll sold two sides of himself (something he later used to cover up his alleged sex crimes). One was of an intelligent, caring man who was studying for his degree.
The other was a fighter, as he told the women of his true love – professional wrestling.
This is where most of them turned their lights off. Funnily enough, fake fighting between two men in their pants is not what they were looking for. Some were, though, and were desperate enough to keep their lights on.
Then was the time to introduce Jimmy Havoc into the mix.
Jimmy Havoc Was Introduced As His Best Friend
In the third round of the show, Jimmy Havoc was introduced as the best friend of Marty Scurll.
He was tasked with giving more details about the kind of person Marty Scurll was. In hindsight, he was not the man to do that.
Jimmy Havoc appeared on the big screen, looking like a caricature of the 2000s emo movement. The sheer volume of his hair was enough to keep the hairspray business going for the next decade.
The Englishman revealed that Scurll is a huge fan of boy bands, in particular the Irish group Boyzone. This caused some women to turn their light off, although most baulked at the idea of him being a wrestler at all.
Havoc also added that Scurll used to spoon him when they toured the UK together. This actually had one woman become even more enamoured with him, which speaks about her more than anything.
This was the end of his portion of the show. Six women kept their lights on, and Marty Scurll chose one of them to take to Fernandos.
Now, this was absolutely horrible, and must have been incredibly embarrassing for all involved. However, sadly, this wasn’t the worst thing Marty Scurll has ever done.
Both Men Are Now Disgraced In The Wrestling Business
Both Jimmy Havoc and Marty Scurll had their career’s ended by the Speaking Out Movement in 2020.
They were accused of varying levels of sexual assualt in June 2020. Jimmy Havoc’s ex-partner claimed he was verbally, physically and sexually abusive. She even said that he threatened to kill himself if he left.
He was sent to rehab after this came out, before being fired by AEW. He hasn’t wrestled since, and the last anybody had heard, Jimmy Havoc worked as a delivery driver for DPD in the UK.
Meanwhile, Marty Scurll was accused of having sexual relations with a 16-year-old trainee of his. He was in his 30s and in a position of trust over the young girl. There were allegations that he pressured her into it, which he has denied.
Scurll lost his $1,000,000 contract with Ring of Honor, and his career is in tatters. Despite attempting multiple comebacks, and even being booked in NJPW, nowhere in the US and the UK will touch him.
Maybe he should check out the indie scene in the Isle of Fernando’s.
