JJ Gale didn’t realise wrestling could be so easy until he stepped into the ring with world-class wrestlers like Will Ospreay and Zack Sabre Jr.
The RevPro star recently spoke with The Magic of Wrestling, where he was asked about wrestling the two British wrestlers.
He started by discussing matches with Will Ospreay, while also mentioning former WWE star Joe E. Legend.
“I mean, first of all, it’s a blessing that you can get in there. You know, from where I was in my little pocket of the British wrestling scene to then being involved with RevPro, getting on these shows, and getting opportunities to work with the best wrestlers in the world—it’s invaluable for your growth and development as a wrestler.”
“And it’s also one of those times, like you say, when you get in there and realize these guys are operating on a different level. It’s motivating because it makes you want to get to that point, and you also learn so much from those experiences. So yeah, it’s wicked.”
“I remember getting in there with Will, and that was probably one of the first times—well, maybe not the first time, but the first time I ever really felt this was when I wrestled a guy called Joe E. Legend. You might know him from the WWF back in the day. That was the first time I wrestled a guy and thought, ‘Wow, wrestling can be so easy.’ It was the first time I worked with a real, experienced guy who just held my hand through a match and said, ‘This is what we do, and this is how easy it can be.'”
“Wrestling Will was another experience like that. Less about how easy it can be, but more about how sharp and on-point he is. He’s there for everything, and you’ve got to keep up—you’ve got to be on it—because he’s just such a talented wrestler.”
“Experiencing that firsthand in the ring was huge. When I wrestled him, we’re going back about four years now, so I was a lot earlier in my development as a wrestler. But it was super motivating and a really cool opportunity. It’s a match I’d love to run back. Obviously, he’s doing his thing in AEW now, so maybe it’s not as likely as it could have been a year or so ago, but I’m definitely looking forward to running that back at some point in the future.”
JJ Gale On Wrestling Zack Sabre Jr
“Zack would be a good few years later—that was right at the end of last year. For me, it was my first real chance to get out there and show the world who I am.”
“You’ve got someone like Zack Sabre Jr., who has the world’s eyes on him. He had just won the G1 Climax, but even a year ago, he was widely regarded as one of the best wrestlers in the world. We ran a program last year, which all started at the Revolution Rumble—I eliminated him. At that point, I was pretty much unknown to most fans, so it was a huge opportunity for me to show who I am on a bigger stage.”
“We ran this whole program, went through the Copper Box, wrestled at RevPro: High Stakes, and then we got to that match. And yeah, getting in there with Zack—once again, he’s just an absolute pro. He knows exactly what he’s doing, makes you look great, but also makes you work hard and realize there are levels to this game.”
“So yeah, it was a really, really cool experience wrestling guys like that, and hopefully, there are many more to come.”
