Rob Drake was incredibly shocked when he turned up to wrestle at ICW After Hours 2024 and spotted Drew McIntyre backstage!

The WWE star made a surprise appearance at the show, which took place less than 24 hours before McIntyre battled Damian Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship.

While CM Punk made a shock appearance to cost him that match, Drew McIntyre gave the ICW fans the biggest surprise that night as he made his first appearance for the promotion in years.

It wasn’t just the fans who were shocked though. Rob Drake, who was wrestling with Isaac North against Arcade Violence that night, had no idea the former WWE Champion would be backstage until he spotted a giant Scot walking around.

Speaking on The Soul Sessions, Rob Drake spoke about the night Drew McIntyre made a shock appearance at ICW After Hours during the weekend of WWE Clash at the Castle Scotland.

“I’ve never told anyone publicly before, so here it goes: It was ICW After Hours. We had travelled up from the Northwest, from Manchester, so it was a long distance. We got there, and of course, we were pumped.

“We’re always ready to wrestle, but by the time we were scheduled to go out, it was like 2 o’clock in the morning. So, we were tired, still pumped, but we needed something to get us really fired up.”

“We were about to go out when they told us, ‘Okay guys, get ready. You’ll be on in another 20 minutes.’ And we were like, ‘Ugh, man, is there a promo going on?'”

“Then, I see this huge man walking down the stairs. I think to myself, ‘Geez, that guy’s massive. Look at the size of his back.’ I thought, ‘He looks like Drew McIntyre,’ and sure enough, it was him. He rounds the corner, looks at us, and just says, ‘Alright, boys,’ giving us this intense look.”

“Then he went out and did this promo, and the crowd went absolutely ballistic for him. They didn’t even know he wasn’t scheduled to be there. It was insane. Afterwards, he came back and said, ‘Right, boys, have a good match.’ And I’m telling you, if that doesn’t light a fire under your ass, something’s wrong with you. We were so pumped up after that.”

“To top it off, Drew McIntyre, Carmelo Hayes, and Grayson Waller all watched our match. They were there live, and it was just surreal. Following Drew McIntyre was mind-blowing.”
