WWE’s Finn Balor was the man who brokered the deal between RevPro and New Japan Pro Wrestling.
The two companies official joined forces in 2015 as part of the “IWGP Conception”. However, they unnoficcially connected in 2013. Since then, RevPro have been able to bring in a number of Japanese stars to wrestle on their shows.
At RevPro When Thunder Strikes 2013, Prince Devitt (now known as Finn Balor) battled Jushin Liger for the British Cruiserweight Championship. British legend Mark “Rollerball” Rocco presented the belt prior to the match, in an all-time great moment in British wrestling history.
This includes former British J Cup winner Jushin Liger, AEW’s Kazuchika Okada and NJPW President Hiroshi Tanahashi.
The added interest from these international stars has helped the company grow. However, it would not hvae been possible without the help of Finn Balor.
RevPro boss Andy Quildan spoke with Finisher FM, where he spoke about how RevPro was born, and their relationship with NJPW.
He explained about how originally booked for IPW: UK (which you can read more about here), but had to leave because he needed ownership over the brand. They needed a diff
“I was previously the booker for IPW: UK. I was also a promoter for a number of years with the IPW brand. I feel like we definitely pushed the boundaries of what IPW was all about in those days. If you look at some of the cards I produced—basically all the cards in Sittingbourne—those were my productions.”
“The evolution really came out of necessity. I had to essentially create my own brand because, while I had ownership over my shows—the production, talent, and booking—I didn’t have ownership over the brand itself, nor over its direction. As a result, that’s how Revolution Pro Wrestling was born.”
Finn Balor Brokered The Deal For RevPro With NJPW
Quildan went on to explain that Finn Balor was the man behind their partnership with New Japan Pro Wrestling.
The former Prince Devitt brokered the deal between the two promotions, which has proved very fruitful for RevPro over the years.
“One of the big things we wanted to do was push boundaries, and one way we did that was by creating relationships with promotions from around the wrestling globe. New Japan Pro Wrestling was probably our first and longest-running, most meaningful relationship. It all actually stemmed from Prince Devitt—you may know him as Finn Balor in WWE.”
“He was working for us at the time, alongside New Japan, and was our Cruiserweight Champion from December 2012 through to some point in 2013, kind of late 2013. He was the one who brokered the deal with New Japan Pro Wrestling initially, for our first show at York Hall, which became our first milestone.”
