Callum Newman heavily values his friendship with Will Ospreay but has made it his career goal to be better than him as a wrestler as soon as possible.
The Englishman is one of the top young stars in the world of wrestling today. Callum Newman is the youngest man to ever compete in the G1 Climax and has been viewed as the air to Will Ospreay and the United Empire in New Japan Pro Wrestling.
He has always been a student and protege of Will Ospreay. However, that has not stopped Callum Newman from aiming high to become the greatest wrestler in the world – even better than Ospreay himself.

Callum Newman Sees Will Ospreay As Like A Brother
Speaking with the All Real Wrestling Podcast, Callum Newman spoke at length about his relationship with Will Ospreay.
He called him his “older brother” and recalled numerous times that the AEW star had his back during their time together in the UK and in Japan. He said;
“Will is my older brother—the reason I’m here. He was always tough on me.” Callum Newman said about Will Ospreay.
“ I remember in training, we were doing 100 push-ups. I had never done that many before. I was struggling, and Will comes over and just grabs my shirt.“
“Every time I push down, he lifts me back up and keeps yelling, ‘Don’t stop, don’t stop, don’t stop.’”
“He’d push me to my limit in training, but after, he’d always say, ‘Well done, I’m proud of you.’ One time, I hurt myself real bad, and Will called me from New Zealand to check on me. He sent me links, told me what to do, and where to go for help.”
Newman Says He Will Become As Good or Better Than Will Ospreay
Despite the brotherly love between the two high-flyers, Callum Newman wants to become as good or better than Will Ospreay.
The two Englishmen are very alike in the ring, and both of them think that he is the bigger talents in wrestling. Whether he matches those expectations or not is up to him in the next few years.
“I firmly believe that one day, I will be on the same level as Will. He told me from the start, and I didn’t really believe it.“
“But after months of being in Japan, learning from everyone, I know that if I stick with it, in four or five years, I can prove to everyone that I’m at that level.”
Will Ospreay Even Made Sure Callum Newman Was Doing Well In His Exams
Even outside of wrestling, Will Ospreay has been looking out for Callum Newman. This began when Newman won a wrestling scholarship from WrestleTalk at the age of 16 and trained with the former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion.
Callum Newman spoke about it on the documentary “Will Ospreay: Closing My Chapter” on YouTube and said:
“I’ve got brothers, but I’ve never looked up to any of them. Apart from [Will Ospreay].” Callum Newman said.
“He kept me in school. He made sure I was doing my exams. Even with wrestling him back and forth and making sure I was behaving at home with my mum and dad.”
“He pulled my mum and dad at the Brixton one, and said ‘If he quits, he’s an idiot’. It was because I went up to him that day and said, ‘Thanks for everything. This is my last training session. You’ve made it wonderful, thank you.”
