Dim the lights. Hush the crowd. Fire up the spotlight. It’s time for ‘Timeless’ Toni Storm!
There have been few wrestlers to capture the public’s imagination of the past few years as wildly as Toni Storm. The Hollywood-obsessed star has been a tour de force both in and out of the ring with her fantastic character work and brilliant matches.
While we could wax lyrical about her incredible promos, it is Toni Storm’s best matches we’ll be going through in this article.
We’re looking at her performances not only in AEW but also matches in WWE, in the UK and from her time in Stardom in Japan. We have some really deep cuts that you simply won’t want to miss.
So, without further ado – lights, camera, action!
11. Emi Sakura & Mei Suruga vs. Hikaru Shida & Toni Storm (AEW Dark 21/2022)
A classic match that you may have missed happened on the Youtube show, AEW Dark. Toni Storm teamed with Hikaru Shida in a tag match, taking on Mei Suruga and Emi Sakura.
With four women who work the Japanese style, this match was incredible.
It gave fans a hint of what the women’s division could be. They focused on hard-hitting in-ring action, and that is exactly what the fans got. With the cancellation of AEW Dark, we may never see a match like this in AEW again. That is a huge shame.
10. Kagetsu vs. Toni Storm (Stardom Shining Stars 2018)
The first of the two matches between Kagetsu and Toni Storm on this list came during Storm’s iconic reign as champion in Stardom,
Kagetsu ended Storm’s legendary 258-day reign as the World of Stardom Champion with a 450 Splash, at the end of a classic hard-hitting Joshi encounter.
They would have a rematch the following year, which actually managed to build on the match and make it even better.
9. Kagetsu vs. Toni Storm (Stardom Gold May 2019)
Although the only thing at stake was the pride of the competitors, this was a title match-caliber performance that heated up Korakuen.
Toni Storm’s brief return to Stardom brought some great matches, but none more so than her rematch against Kagetsu.
It built on the last match, improving almost everything and bringing the intensity up to 11. It was a fine performance by both wrestlers and definitely one of Toni Storm’s best matches.
8. Jamie Hayter vs. Toni Storm (AEW Full Gear 2022)
Jamie Hayter’s victory over Toni Storm at AEW Full Gear 2022 is probably one of the best women’s matches in the company’s history.
The match was for the Interim women’s title originally, but just before the bout it was confirmed that Toni Storm was the official champion, following Thunder Rosa’s injury.
It was an incredibly physical match, with neither woman letting up. It was more like a Japanese-style match than a typical AEW women’s match, clearly drawing from the pairs’ history working in Japan.
The two stars raised the standards of women’s wrestling in AEW with this match, making this Toni Storm’s best match in AEW so far.
7. Meiko Satomura vs. Toni Storm (WWE Mae Young Classic)
In the 2018 Mae Young Classic, the WWE continued the incredible rivalry between two of the world’s finest female wrestlers.
The two generations of wrestling clashed on the biggest stage, fighting for a spot in the Mae Young Classic Final.
Despite Meiko being the top wrestler in the tournament, she lost to Toni Storm in a match that left fans reeling due to its incredible quality.
They worked the crowd brilliantly and helped get them behind Toni Storm for her battle with IO SKY in the final of the tournament.
6. Meiko Satomura vs. Toni Storm (EVE Global Women Strike)
It’d be hard to argue that Meiko Satomura isn’t Toni Storm’s greatest rival. They dominate each other’s best matches, putting on some of the finest women’s matches ever seen.
After previously wrestling to a time-limit draw, this match was given a no-time-limit stipulation. In a fantastic match, Toni Storm kept her undefeated steak alive, pinning Meiki Satomura in one of her best matches ever.
5. Candice LeRae, Dakota Kai, Raquel Gonzalez & Toni Storm vs. Ember Moon, Io Shirai, Rhea Ripley & Shotzi Blackheart (NXT TakeOver: WarGames IV 2020)
The women’s War Games match in 2020 saw Toni Storm in her new heel persona, joining Candice LaRae’s side for a legendary match-up.
This bout featured some of the greatest women in NXT history, including current main roster members like Dakota Kai and Rhea Ripley.
Toni Storm was third to enter the match and made her presence known immediately. She used her cunning to try and keep the other team’s wrestlers out of the match, showing what kind of heel she could be in NXT.
In one of Toni Storm’s best matches ever, her teammate Raquel González pinned Io Shirai to win the bout for their team, securing her first win inside the double cage of War Games.
4. Mariah May vs Toni Storm (AEW All In 2014)
The greatest story the AEW women ever told was between two British women (Toni Storm is British, trust me) at Wembley Stadium. Where else could be more fitting?
After a storyline that paid homage to the golden age of cinema, Mariah May turned her back on her mentor and put an end to the reign of AEW Women’s Champion ‘Timeless’ Toni Storm.
This was arguably the most anticipated match at All In that year and the British crowd were red hot for these two women. It did not disappoint and added another, even more compelling, chapter to the tale of Toni Storm by giving her one of her best matches.
3. Io Shirai vs Toni Storm (Stardom Gold May 2017)
When you see two top stars go 30 minutes in a match, you know you’ve got something special.
The match told a nuanced, brilliant story that made both women feel like massive deals.
Io Shirai sold her neck to perfection, while Toni Storm captured the complicated feelings of wanting to hurt her opponent to win the match, but not to truly hurt her.
This is the best match between Toni Storm and Io Shirai (who now goes by IO SKY in WWE).
2. Meiko Satomura vs. Toni Storm (Sendai Girls UK)
In a rematch of their Mae Young Classic match, Toni Storm battled Meiki Satomura in their best match against each other at the Sendei Girls UK show in 2019.
Meiko and Toni have an incredible connection with one another, and this played to a great backdrop with most of the fans firmly behind Satomura as she took Storm to the limit.
However, she could not get over the line, falling once again to Toni Storm in one of the great matches from either woman’s career.
1. Jinny vs. Laura Di Matteo vs. Toni Storm (PROGRESS Chapter 49: Super Strong Style 16 Tournament Edition 2017)
At the end of a tournament to crown the Progress Women’s Champion, these three women put on one of the best women’s matches in British history.
Will Laura Di Matteo was the more inexperienced of the three, she was carried to a fantastic bout by Toni Storm and Jinny.
Jinny in particular excelled in the match, with incredible heel work being the thread that made the whole match work.
This is one of the best women’s matches in British history, not just Toni Storm’s best match of his career.
