RevPro owner Andy Quildan heaped praise on Mina Shirakawa for her role as the champion of the RevPro Women’s Division.
The Japanese star beat Dani Luna to become the RevPro Undisputed British Women’s Champion at their 12th Anniversary show back in August.
Mina Shirakawa defended the belt twice in the UK before dropping it to Mercedes Mone at the Tokyo Dome at NJPW’s Wrestle Dynasty. However, she is still viewed as a “great champion” by the bosses at RevPro.
Speaking with the Cultaholic Podcast, Andy Quildan spoke about the history of great champions in RevPro. He mentioned AJ Styles and Zack Sabre Jr as two great Undisputed British Heavyweight Champions, showing the huge names that have appeared for the promotion.
“Since starting RevPro, it’s been pinch-yourself moment after pinch-yourself moment,” Andy Quildan told Cultaholic Wrestling. “In terms of the stature of champions, you can look at the lineage of all RevPro championships. Take the British Heavyweight Championship, for example.”
“It’s been held by AJ Styles, who was defeated by Zack Sabre Jr. just one week prior to entering the WWE Royal Rumble. We’ve got a track record of huge names holding our championship gold, and when you look at the future Hall of Famers who’ve held these titles, it’s remarkable.” Andy Quildan said.
He went on to talk about the women’s championship, which is now held by AEW’s Mercedes Mone. He complimented her “stature” in the business and called her “one of the premier professional wrestlers on the entire planet”.
However, Andy Quildan did not forget to mention Mina Shirakawa. He called her a “fantastic champion” and was thrilled with the engagement she had with the fans. He noted how she took the RevPro Undspited British Women’s Championship and the Queen of Southside title belts with her everywhere, helping to promote his company in the process.
“I think it’s a good reflection of where RevPro is right now that the British Women’s Championship is currently held by someone [Mercedes Mone] who also has that stature—someone who’s seen as one of the premier professional wrestlers on the entire planet. That’s a testament to how far the women’s division has grown.”
“I’m excited about the additional eyeballs this will bring to the RevPro product and to our women’s division as well. It’s been under a huge period of growth over the past couple of years. It’s a really exciting time.
“To see the belt defended in the Tokyo Dome is crazy. Mina Shirakawa, for us, was a fantastic champion. She brought so much engagement and took those belts everywhere she went. She did a great job of shining a light on the RevPro women’s division, even opening the door for future relationships with Stardom. I’m sure it’s not the last we’re going to see of Mina Shirakawa in a RevPro ring.
“You look at the British Heavyweight Championship—it’s been defended in the Tokyo Dome, Madison Square Garden, and Arena Mexico. The Women’s Championship is starting to catch up now. It’s all about getting the eyes of the wrestling world on what we’re doing from our humble beginnings.”
