Zak Knight: I’m Different & Unique To The AEW Roster, I’ve Waited 20 Years For This Opportunity

Zak Knight has waited 20 years for his opportunity in AEW and thinks he is unique enough to make a difference in the company.

The English star joined his sister Saraya in AEW in February this year. He accompanied his sister in her feud with Ruby Soho, even wrestling Angelo Parker on Rampage.

However, that storyline was canned when Soho revealed she was pregnant. While Zak Knight (not the former Aston Villa defender) appeared alongside his family at Wembley Stadium at AEW All In 2024, he has only wrestled in dark matches for AEW.

Having not been seen since June, fans have been wondering where Zak Knight has gone. Luckily he has cleared that up in a recent YouTube interview.

Speaking with Cromulent Wrestling, Zak Knight revealed that he asked for some time off from AEW in June, after he wrestled his last match for the company.

While he was cleared to return for AEW All In, he has yet to wrestle for the promotion. He explains that he is happy to wait for another chance to work in the company, because he’s already waited so long for a contract for a big American company.

“I came home in the middle of June and I asked for some time off for personal reasons. You know, there were personal reasons, there were health issues within my family, and the mental health of me, my children, and my wife. We had just spent 10 months apart, and it was difficult—it was so hard.” Zak Knight said.

“Tony was very accommodating. I was allowed some time off work, and I got about seven or eight weeks, which I was really grateful for. By the end of July, I was cleared to go back to work, so I went to Cardiff and I went to Wembley.”

“I put a post up on Twitter the other day because people were asking, ‘Is he still signed? Why isn’t he on TV?’ I try to remind people that AEW probably has the best roster in the world. The wrestlers we have are 10 out of 10—bar none. They’re all amazing athletes.”

“To come home for two months, which has now turned into a few months, I can’t just expect to go straight back onto TV, straight back into a storyline, and take someone else’s spot. There have been new signings since I’ve been home.”

“I’m a very patient guy. I waited 20 years to get my contract. If I’ve got to wait another six months or a year to get another opportunity, I’m confident in what I do. I know that what I bring is different and unique compared to anyone else in AEW right now. So as soon as I get my chance, I feel like I’ll be moving in the right direction again. I’ll get a flurry of matches, maybe a story.”

“But until then, I’ll support the company and I’ll keep training.”

Zak Knight also claimed that he wanted to sign him to a contract before they signed Saraya, despite him claiming she got him the job a year earlier.
