What Is A Thunderbastard Match?
The Thunderbastard match is a unique match type created by Progress Wrestling and first debuted in 2014.
The Thunderbastard match at Progress Chapter 14 was to crown the number one contender for the Progress World Champion. Will Ospreay was the winner of the match, but it was the stipulation that was the star of the show.
The match is a multi-man gauntlet match. Two men start in the ring and attempt to eliminate each other via pinfall, submission, KO, countout or DQ. At equal intervals, competitors enter one by one, similar to the entries in the Royal Rumble match.
Wrestlers are eliminated until only one man remains. He is declared the winner of the Thunderbastard match after outlasting between six to ten competitors, earning the prize on the line in the bout.
There have been men’s, women’s and tag team Thunderbastard matches, although the match is exclusive to Progress and has never been done outside of the promotion.
