Michael Oku To AEW Seems Unlikely After Documentary Admission

Michael Oku’s proposed signing with AEW could be off following his admission that he doesn’t know where his future lies.

The Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion was heavily rumoured to be joining AEW last year in the build-up to AEW All In.

Oku already appeared as a security guard at All In in 2023 before making his debut in a dark match at AEW Dynamite in Cardiff last year. His matches with Will Ospreay put him on the radar of Tony Khan and he seemed certain to be joining the promotion imminently.

He even confirmed that he was in talks with AEW over a contract, which seemed to seal the deal about leaving RevPro.

However, time went on and Michael Oku remained in the UK. While he travelled to the US occasionally for indie appearances, more appearances in AEW escaped him. He wasn’t offered a contract and the story went dark.

As of 2025, he is back to being the Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion while AEW has moved on, signing stars like Mike Bailey instead. So, what happened to Michael Oku’s AEW contract?

Michael Oku Doesn’t Know What Is Happening With AEW Signing

Unfortunately, Michael Oku doesn’t know what happened to his proposed move to AEW.

This was revealed during his appearance in the RevPro “How To Star A Revolution” documentary which detailed the behind-the-scenes of RevPro’s 12th Anniversary show.

At that event, Michael Oku lost his Undisputed British Heavyweight Championship belt to Luke Jacobs in a fantastic match before being interviewed about his future.

“I don’t know, that’s the thing, there’s nothing confirmed about that.” Michael Oku told the cameras after wrestling Luke Jacobs in August.

“All I know for sure is that it’s the end of this timeline and it feels like all the stars seem to be leading to a new chapter starting. But here’s the truth, I don’t know what that chapter is. “

Even if I’m not going anywhere and I’m still in the indies, I feel like I can still look at this as a run, like a successful run.”

Michael Oku Isn’t The Only UK Star To Get Interest From Top Promotions

While Michael Oku’s dreams of joining a major promotion like AEW may have been delayed, other similar stars from the UK have their future ahead of them.

Recent reports indicate that WWE has a strong interest in signing both Rhio and Man Like Dereiss. The two stars are some of the most entertaining on the UK scene, with Dereiss’ rapping gimmick having huge upsides in the WWE’s entertainment-based product.

However, they will have competition for the Birmingham-born wrestler, who has recently made his debut for TNA.

This should give Michael Oku hope that the UK scene isn’t being ignored and that his chance to join AEW has not gone away forever.
