British wrestling legend Johnny Kidd is set to end his career after 46 years in the business.

The 68-year-old wrestled during the Golden Era of wrestling, when the likes of Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks were household names across the United Kingdom.

He featured regularly on World of Sport on ITV until its closure in 1988. He continued wrestling all over the UK until this year, and even spent time in the US in 2011 with Chikara.

Johnny Kidd wrestled the classic British style, with skillful technical wrestling his forte. He originally retired in 2016 after losing a retirement match to Mike Quackenbush, but as wrestled semi-regulatly up until this year.

Johnny Kidd’s retirement will mark the end of the Golden Era of British wrestling. Very few – if any – stars of the World of Sport days still remain, even if Kendo Nagasaki comes out of retirement at the age of 82 this year.

Johnny Kidd will wrestle his final match on October 29th, 2024 for LDN Wrestling. It will take place at the Wyllyotts Theatre in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire.

On their official Facebook page, LDN Wrestling revealed that Wrestling Hall of Famer Johnny Kidd will wrestle his last ever match, when he competes for the promotion later this year.

They wrote:

“Johnny Kidd is without any doubt one of the greats of British Wrestling. Having started his career in 1978 he has faced many of the legends like Mick McManus, Johnny Saint, Kendo Nagasaki and Brian Maxine to name but a few and in recent times has opposed modern day LDN stars such as LDN Wrestler- Alan Lee Travis, Chris Tyler and Joey Scott.”

“In 2019 Johnny was inducted into the Wrestlers Hall of Fame therefore cementing his legacy in the industry.”

“Although Johnny has limited his in-ring action over recent years he has continued to participate in the squared circle a number of times a year. However, on Tuesday 29th October in Potters Bar Johnny will step into an LDN ring for the final time as a professional wrestler. Johnny has chosen this venue to have his final match as the town holds fond memories for him as he has appeared there many times during his career.”

“Although Johnny will be retiring as an active wrestler within LDN Wrestling he will still be an integral part of the company and will continue his duties as a referee, something that he has been undertaking now for a couple of years.”

“Johnny Kidd has always been one of the most popular men on the circuit whether as a wrestler or an official. LDN Wrestling have been very proud and honoured to be associated with him for so many years and we look forward to continuing with our working relationship with him for many years to come.”
