Jamie Hayter’s Injury Cost Her A Wembley Stadium Homecoming

Jamie Hayter has had some of the worst injury luck out of any British wrestler in recent times.

The English wrestler was at the top of AEW in 2023. She won the AEW Women’s Championship at Full Gear 2023, earning her first title since debuting with the company four years prior.

It was a huge moment for Jamie Hayter. She had been stuck in the shadow of Britt Baker for months, helping her retain her belt and interfering in her matches.

However, fans made Hayter the star. They kept cheering her on, impressed by her amazing matches. The British star was one of the best wrestlers in the company, and her title reign was arguably the best in AEW history.

But it all came to an end at Double or Nothing 2023, due to Jamie Hayter’s injury, which plagued her over a year after the fact.

Jamie Hayter Suffered An Injury Prior To Double or Nothing 2023

Jamie Hayter suffered an injury prior to her match with Toni Storm at Double or Nothing 2023. Her match with the Australian star was a short one, lasting just three minutes and giving Hayter very little offence.

It was clear something was wrong. Her previous title defences regular reached 15 minutes, and her dynamic and hard-hitting performances were a sight to behold. Seeing her beaten down for three minutes and pinned was shocking, and clearly indicated an injury was at fault.

Jamie Hayter was helped to the back by doctors, as she clutched her arm in pain. Her face told the whole story: this was a bad injury.

However, it didn’t take place during that match. Hayter was already injured going into the show, but valiantly agreed to wrestle hurt in order to get the title onto Storm in a wrestling match.

While AEW never revealed when the injury took place, we can pinpoint it by looking at her latest matches. Hayter was booked for a match on AEW Dynamite in May 2023, but pulled out due to injury before show.

Prior to that, her last match took place on AEW Dynamite on April 19th, 2023. Hayter teamed with Britt Baker to take on Ruby Soho and Toni Storm, to build to her PPV match with Storm the following month.

While there was no particular instance in the match that drew attention, it seems likely Jamie Hayter suffered the unknown injury during that match.

She Missed AEW All In At Wembley Stadium Due To The Injury

Sadly, the injury caused Jamie Hayter to miss the biggest wrestling event of her career.

Being English, AEW All In was a show she was looking forward to wrestling on. It took place in Wembley Stadium in August 2023, and drew the largest paid wrestling crowd in history.

She was certain to defend her title in a marquee match. However, the injury meant she missed not just All In, but over a year of in-ring action. Hopes of her returning in August were slim, but now she was looking at trying to be fit for next year’s event instead.

It has been a torrid time for Jamie Hayter. Missing out on the biggest show ever in her home country was one thing. But missing an entire year of action when she was hitting her peak, with the crowd behind her and while holding the belt must’ve been like a dagger to her heart.

There are reports she could return in time for Wembley Stadium in 2024. If that is the case, then a surprise appearance from the English star could bring the biggest pop of the night. It won’t make up for missing a year of action, but it’ll certainly help.
