Attack! Pro Wrestling Tag Team Extravaganza Review

Attack! Pro Wrestling brought their tag team extravangza event to Cathays on Saturday night, and it was an excellent performance from one of Wales’ top wrestling promotions.

The event was sold on the tag team action. Four teams competed in a mini tournament to crown the first Attack! Tag Team Champions in three years, with the matches being the highlight of the show.

That is not to disparage the rest of the card. Eddie Dennis continued to showcase his talents as one of Britain’s top heels, while the Brothers of Construction instantly became my favourite tag team upon their return to the Cardiff-based promotion.

Here is our review of Attack! Pro Wrestling’s Tag Team Extravangza event in Cathays, Cardiff.

Greedy Souls vs Father & Son Flower

Attack! Pro Wrestling: Tag Team Extravangza opened with the first of two semi final matches.

Greedy Souls, who are one of the best heel tag teams in the UK today, took on one of the funnest teams. “Father and Son Flower”, a pair of luchador sunflowers, were the perfect foil for the Greedy Souls, with Sonny the Sunflower in particular impressing.

He flew around the ring like a plant-based Rey Mysterio. Brenden White and Danny Jones bumped around the ring for him a great deal, and made them both look like a credible team.

In the end, it was the Greedy Souls who cheated to win, earning a spot in the final against one of two teams, to be crowned the Attack Tag Team Champions.

Brothers of Construction vs SubCulture

This second match was a completely different style to the first, which makes sense, given the talent involved.

Mark Andrews and Flash Morgan Webster, who have won titles in WWE and TNA, are one of the best tag teams in the world right now. Putting them together against veterans of the UK scene in Jim & Lee Hunter (aka the Brothers of Construction) was a recipe for success.

This was a match that wouldn’t have been out of place on a major mainstream televised show. The BoC quickly got the crowd on their side, with both teams doing amazingly well to get them over in front of a crowd who hadn’t seen them for years.

In a result that shocked me, Subculture lost this match. Jim & Lee flipped around the ring like the Young Bucks, and wrestled an incredibly built match that showed just how good both teams are.

The Brothers of Construction advanced to the final, where they wrestled Greedy Souls in the main event for the Attack Tag Team Championships.

After this match, Josh Holly and Jack Knudsen chased each other onto the stage and into the ring. They were fighting over Holly’s 24/7 Championship, with Slammaster’s referee, Stu, chasing them all the way through the crowd and out the back door.

This led us to arguably the best match of the night.

Eddie Dennis vs KANJI

The Attack! Championship was on the line, as Eddie Dennis faced off against Nottingam’s own KANJI.

Watching the 6 foot 6 tall Welshman battling a, while impressive, much smaller woman, only added to the incredibly heat Dennis drew throughout the match.

KANJI had the crowd behind her (with chants of “Yes she Kanji” being consistent throughout), and she looked like a real star.

Her plan of “lets just kick and punch Eddie Dennis is the face” was a big hit for the crowd. They exploded when she pinned him for the win, and they cheered hugely when she lifted the Attack Championship for the first time.

However, disaster soon struck. The referee, for some reason, suddently noticed Eddie Dennis’ massive legs were actually under the rope. He restarted the match, and he pinned Kanji to win the match and retain his belt.

It was an excellent big man vs little (wo)man bout. Eddie Dennis had no issue repeatedly kicking or punching the much smaller woman in the face, which got huge heat from the crowd.

Harrison Bennett vs ELIJAH

The next match was another fun match. Eddie Dennis grabbed the microphone, deciding to be the ring announcer and commentator for the match.

He introduced his new best friend, Harrison Bennet, to take on the fan-favourite star, ELIJAH. Chants of “Sexy ELIJAH” rang throughout the match, as they put on a hard-hitting, fast past match that had everyone on their feet.

The running strikes in particular looked brutal, and it was a great match overall. Bennett picked up the win thanks to Dennis distracting ELIJAH while on the top rope, which could lead to him facing the giant Welshman in the near future.

What followed next wasn’t really a match. The two wrestlers who interupted previously returned to the ring, continuing their fight for the 24/7 Championship. Josh Holly defeated Jack Knudsen, although from where we were sat, it wasn’t clear how the match actually.

The crowd then erupted when Rayne Leverkusen hit Holly with an RKO. She quickly pinned the champion, taking home the gold for herself.

Brothers of Construction vs Greedy Souls

The main event of the night was the culmination of the mini Attack Tag Team Championship tournament. Brenden White and Danny Jones played heel to the Brothers of Construction, who were hugely over following their impressive victory over Subculture.

The match was another fantastic outing. Greedy Souls repeatedly cut off Jim Construction

The Brothers of Construction used their gimmick and surrounding to their advantage. Chants of “Health and Safety” and “Build! Build! Build!” buoyed them on to victory, with an attack with a broken fan while the referee was down being a particular highlight.

They even donned their hardharts and hit the famous Dudley Boys “Wassup” spot, with great effect.

The ending of the match was a unique one, and a ref bump spot that I’ve never seen before. A second referee ran in after Stu had been knocked out, and was about to count of the pin following the Brother’s top rop hurricanrana/diving splash combination.

However, Danny Jones pulled the referee from the ring just before he could hit the third count. Luckily, Stu found his voice at the last second, counting to three and awarding the win to the Brothers of Construction.

This ended what is one of the funnest live wrestling shows I’ve been to. It’s great to see Welsh wrestling at its best, with the likes of Mark Andrews, Flash Morgan Webster and Eddie Dennis surely destined for greatness.

I can’t wait to see the next show that Attack! Pro Wrestling has to offer.
