Marty Scurll has revealed how he came to join Bullet Club.
The Englishman joined the legendary Japanese stable after signing with New Japan Pro Wrestling in 2017. He quickly positioned himself as one of the top young wrestlers in the world, with his villain persona capturing the imaginations of fans across the globe.
Alongside big stars like Kenny Omega, Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks, the Englishman truly stood out as a top talent.
Sadly, he threw all his talent away after some horrendous allegations came to light and spends his days wrestling in Mexico. However, Marty Scurll had the world at his feet when he first joined Bullet Club.
There was never some big plan for him though. Marty Scurll recently spoke with the I Love Wrestling Podcast, where he revealed that the decision to have him join Bullet Club wasn’t anything special and something all foreigners went through.
New Japan didn’t even want him to do a big debut, getting him to announce he’d joined the group via Twitter!
Marty Scurll On Joining Bullet Club
“It wasn’t one of our ideas for me to be part of the Bullet Club. It was actually New Japan’s decision. They had booked me to debut in the Best of Super Juniors, and the way Japan works, pretty much every gaijin ends up in a stable. At the time, they were putting people into Bullet Club, so they told me, ‘Yes, you’re going to be part of the Bullet Club.'” Marty Scurll said.
“What was funny was that they wanted me to debut by simply tweeting about it. That’s how they wanted me to announce it – just tweet that I was in Bullet Club. I was like, ‘What?'”
“The timing was crazy because when I got all this news, I was on an independent show in Ireland with the Bucks and Kenny. I remember pulling them aside and explaining, ‘Hey, here’s the deal.’ It was a fun moment.”
Marty Scurll On Filming His First Video With Bullet Club
Marty Scurll continued, explaining how he filmed his first vignette with Bullet Club in a hotel in Ireland after an OTT show.
“My debut in Bullet Club was wild. When you see Kenny doing the ‘V’ on the video screen during his promo, that was the big reveal. We filmed that in a hotel hallway at 3 in the morning in Ireland. I was standing there, full gear, full mask. Fortunately, no one woke up and spoiled it, otherwise the whole story would have been revealed early.” Marty Scurll said.
“I remember thinking, ‘How can I make this special?’ Then it clicked—I needed to have the Bullet Club logo on my umbrella. I found a local artist who had no idea about wrestling, so I figured he wouldn’t make the connection and spoil the surprise.”
“Everything just came together in that perfect storm. I think it really was. I debuted that night in Bullet Club, and the very next week, I was flying to Japan for my first tour there.”
